KAMILCHE – Assistant Secretary-Indian Affairs Larry EchoHawk made his first visit to the Pacific Northwest as the head of the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs to meet with leaders of the 24 treaty Indian tribes in the Pacific Northwest. Federal Update for June 2008

APPROPRIATIONS

House subcommittees have approved appropriations bills that would provide $27.9 billion in discretionary funding. That would top the current level by 4.9 percent increase, or $1.3 billion and Bush’s request by 8.2 percent, or $2.1 billion. The full committee is set to take up the bill on June 18.



Hank Adams wins Indian Country Today’s American Indian Visionary Award

Hank Adams, the lifelong activist who negotiated peaceful ends to some of the most dangerous standoffs in modern Indian history, is the 2006 recipient of Indian Country Today’s American Indian Visionary Award.

The award will be presented in a ceremony at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on March 1.
